Position Summary:

The Import/Export Coordinator is responsible for performing basic and advanced logistics functions.  This includes daily tasks such as shipping/receiving in ERP system, assigning HTS/Schedule B codes, and researching country of origin.  The Import/Export Coordinator will be responsible for understanding the latest regulations as they relate to the site; writing, maintaining, training and implementing robust import/export compliance plans.  In addition, they will coordinate annual audits of various data elements related to importing and exporting to ensure accuracy.  They will handle coordination of dangerous goods shipments.  They will also analyze freight costs, free trade agreements, coordinate duty drawback for the best overall outcome. 

 

Areas of Responsibility:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. 

Essential Functions: 

Importing:  Manage Import Compliance Program including country of origin, HTS, TSCA and Duty Drawback.  Write, maintain, train, and audit processes related to importing.  Work with the purchasing team to ensure ERP system is kept up to date and recordkeeping is compliant with all US regulations. 

Exporting:  Manage Export Compliance Program including country of origin, Schedule B, Dangerous Goods and Free Trade Agreements.  Write, maintain, train and audit processes related to exporting.  Work with rest of supply chain to ensure smooth processes and up to date information in ERP system.  Ensure all US regulations are followed.

Production Classification:  Work with technical team to ensure correct tariff and ECCN codes are applied.  Ensure applicable export licenses are obtained in accordance with US regulations. 

Dangerous Goods:  Ensure any products that fall into a Dangerous Goods category are properly packaged, labeled and shipped.  This will include the on-going creation and maintenance of shipping guidelines for use by the rest of the Logistics team.

Continuous Improvement:  Supports department and company objectives by executing on continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes that add value and reduce costs.   Assists with writing procedures for the department and participates in system development by recommending system changes and enhancements that supports Supply Chain activities. Actively participates in KANBAN, Kaizen Events, ISO and 5S projects. Proactively seeks out and applies training to continually improve current skills and job performance. Demonstrates a passion for and leads operational excellence within the organization and drives results. Performs all work within the established document control and quality systems to ensure the highest level of quality is achieved by the department.

ERP System Data: Update and maintain ERP system data to ensure records are accurate and complete.

Communication:  Work with purchasing, logistics, engineering, production and service to ensure all departmental needs are met with import/export processes.  Work with other sites to ensure streamlined processes.  Work with management to mitigating risk related to compliance and freight damage.

 

Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications: 

Minimum:

Education - High School Diploma

Experience - 4 years of experience in shipping/receiving and import/export

Preferred:

Education - 2 year post secondary degree

Experience and/or training - 4+ years in logistics, import/export, dangerous goods

 

Technology/Equipment Skills:

Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

Use of a web browser.
