The Performing Arts Manager oversees the technical, operational, and marketing functions of the school district’s theater facilities. This role combines technical production expertise with event coordination, scheduling, talent booking, and mentorship to deliver high-quality experiences for school and community events.

Essential Responsibilities

Technical Production & Safety

  • Serve as the lead technical resource for lighting, sound, and rigging systems.
  • Oversee event setup, teardown, and equipment storage.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety standards and operational procedures.

Programming & Revenue Development

  • Market theater facilities to external organizations to maximize facility usage and revenue opportunities.
  • Research, schedule, and coordinate professional performers for Alexandria Community Education events.
  • Negotiate contracts and technical requirements for performances.

Team Leadership

  • Supervise event staff, including ushers, security personnel, and ticketing staff.
  • Provide mentorship and support to students, staff, and volunteers involved in productions and events.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage event and facility budgets.
  • Monitor expenditures and identify additional funding opportunities through grants, sponsorships, and partnerships.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external facility users.
  • Coordinate event logistics before and after events to ensure a positive experience for all stakeholders.

Qualifications

Experience

    • Experience in technical theater, including lighting, sound, and rigging systems required.
    • Previous venue management or event production experience preferred.

    Education

    • Postsecondary education in Theater Management, Stagecraft, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.

    Technical Skills

    • Strong knowledge of theatrical control boards, manual/electric rigging systems, and audiovisual equipment.

    Interpersonal Skills

    • Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
    • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

    Physical & Schedule Requirements

    • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
