Level 2 - Watercraft Inspector and Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Educator:
This position involves informing and educating the public about the threats of ecologically harmful aquatic invasive species (AIS) to Minnesota's waters.
Level 2 inspectors work at public water access sites inspecting watercraft for invasive species, educating the public by providing information to watercraft users, and using modified pressure washer equipment to decontaminate watercraft. Must have the ability to drive a county truck and trailer. Level 1 experience is not a prerequisite for the Level 2 position.

  • Inspect watercraft at public water accesses in Douglas County.
  • Provide AIS education and program outreach to recreational boaters, lake users, lake-property owners, and the general public at public water accesses and special events.
  • Use mobile devices to conduct inspections and record survey responses from the general public. Mobile devices are also used for communication with supervisory staff.
  • Conduct AIS early detection searches, as assigned.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, punctuality, and professional behavior.
  • Perform all work in compliance with Douglas County Safety Program, including the AWAIR policy and applicable OSHA standards.
  • Based on job assignment may decontaminate high-risk watercraft using modified pressure washer equipment, operate county-owned vehicles, and transport trailer and decontamination units to various public water accesses.
  • Complies with all rules and policies in order to maintain a safe work environment. 
  • Reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality.
