Customer Services Representative - Animal Care Tech

The Client Services Representative will provide exceptional customer service while working with the public when: surrendering and adopting animals, answering questions and providing education and assistance both in person and on the phone. In addition, they will accurately enter data into software system; ensure all records are kept in accordance to shelter and state policies and regulations. The representative will assist Director, Board of Directors and Shelter Staff in other tasks as needed.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities:

 Public Relations

  • Assist public with all questions providing as much assistance as required in a professional manner.
  • Counsel and screen potential adopters, providing them with all known information regarding available animals. Complete adoptions per shelter policies.
  • Complete animal surrenders by ensuring that all legal documentation is complete and collection full veterinary and behavioral history as known by the previous pet owners, in a non-judgmental, professional manner.
  • Complete impound releases ensuring that all information is obtained and verification of pet ownership if applicable, in a non-judgmental, professional manner.
  • Direct work and assist volunteers per shelter regulations.
  • Assist with public education and behavior counseling.
  • Presents the LAHS to media, animal welfare groups, and the general public, maintaining a desired image and professionalism.
  1. Animal Care
  • Assist with performing complete physical on incoming animals when needed, including documentation of medical conditions and other pertinent information.
  • Administer medications, vaccinations and care to animals as required per shelter procedures, after appropriate training.
  • Assist blood draws for Feline Leukemia/FIV/Heartworm and Heartworm/Lyme/Ehrlichosis/Anaplasomis tests on all incoming cats/dogs per shelter procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of shelter facilities, including, but not limited to, animal cages/kennels, disinfect dishes/supplies and care for linens as per shelter procedures.
  • Serve as the primary backup coverage for animal care technicians kennel shifts as required due to vacations, illness or staff shortage.

III.    Administrative

  • Assist with processing pictures and information on all adoptable animals to maintain Petfinder and other “pet promotion” web sites, flyers, etc. Ensuring that available pets are listed as soon as available for adoption; providing age, behavioral traits and medical details for each and update as their status change.
  • Assist with maintenance of all shelter records, statistical information and provide information for monthly shelter report for Board of Directors.
  • Assist with the coordination transfer options of all animals that have been chosen for transfer.
  • Assist with the coordination of fundraisers, including but not limited to soliciting for sponsorships, auction items and services.
  • Unload/sort and store donations, office and kennel supplies and medications upon receipt to maintain professional office environment and ensure accessibility to necessary items.
  • Complete other related duties as required by the Executive Director.

Other Position Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent certification. Administrative veterinary or shelter experience preferred.
  • Able to deal tactfully, compassionately and effectively with co-workers and public in an occasionally high stress environment.
  • Must be reliable and willing to work early morning, evening, and weekend shifts and long hours when necessary.
  • Have valid Minnesota driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to work independently, without supervision ensuring that tasks are completed as required in an efficient manner.
  • Able to exercise superior judgment to ensure safety when handling animals.
  • Ability to learn and understand the principles of animal welfare work and polices of the LAHS.
  • Possess an aptitude for basic math, writing and computer skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Able to bend and kneel, also, stand and walk on concrete surfaces for long periods of time.

Summary of Environmental Working Conditions:

  • Works both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions during both daylight and after dark, unassisted.
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, dust/hair, odors and chemicals.
  • Walks on paved and unpaved surfaces that may be wet or dry.
  • Regularly exposed to wet and humid conditions.
