Horizon Public Health serving Douglas, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, and Grant counties is seeking applicants for a Full Time Health Educator. The primary purpose of this role is on reducing substance use among youth including alcohol and tobacco.  This position will be responsible for planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating various grant programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles and developing and maintaining partnerships with community organizations to promote health living initiates.

Specifically, this position will oversee the day-to-day implementation of the Drug Free Communities work plan in Alexandria and work closely with the Healthy Voices Healthy Choices Coalition to develop and implement all grant activities per the grant specifications.  The Health Educator is responsible for collaborating with local stakeholders in creating, promoting, and sustaining an effective and efficient alcohol, tobacco and other drug prevention coalition. This position will also work closely with their coalition, numerous community stakeholders, adults and youth, state and national staff versed in substance abuse prevention and a team of contractors/technical assistant providers.

Minimum qualifications include a Baccalaureate degree in community health, health education, public health or related field and one to three years of experience in health education or community health programs.  Successful applicant must pass a criminal background check and a pre-employment drug test.  Must have valid MN driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation. Will include occasional non-traditional work hours.

This is a Grade 12 MNA/AFSCME Council #65 union position. Starting salary range is $32.91-$34.93/hour with earning potential up to $42.96/hour.
