CLASSIFICATION:  College Laboratory Assistant 2 – Welding Option (Job Code 002632 – Option 1246)

EMPLOYMENT CONDITION:  Full Time, Unlimited (with PT Summer Hours); 40 hours/week from approximately August 11 to July 7 (dates will be similar annually); Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (9-hour days); Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (4-hour day); (Includes one 30-minute unpaid meal break and two 15-minute paid rest breaks on Monday through Thursday and one 15-minute paid rest break on Friday)

Eligible for full employer contribution towards insurance benefits and other prorated benefits

SALARY RANGE:  $21.57 to $30.13 Per Hour (2024-2025 Salary Range)

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

This position will assist students in the Welding program. This includes assistance in lab projects, providing procedure troubleshooting and performing training station project inspections. In addition, this person will monitor certification testing.

This person will report to the Dean of Manufacturing, Transportation and Student Services, with lead work provided by Welding faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Post-secondary or industry certificate/diploma/degree or relevant licensure in Welding AND

One year of teaching/tutoring experience in Welding at the high school level or above.

OR

4 years of work experience in Welding (where no degree/certificate/diploma/licensure is required).

OR

An equivalent combination of education and work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current AWS Certification.
  • Ability to work effectively with students to assist learning by recognizing individual learning styles and encourage students to focus on how they learn best.
  • Ability to demonstrate use of equipment and materials in the lab to ensure they are being used properly and safely.
  • Ability to perform repair and maintenance of lab equipment to ensure that it is fully operational and safe to use by students by regularly conducting tests of the working condition of the equipment, making minor repairs, and ordering major repair service from vendors.
  • Ability to oversee the security of the lab so that equipment and materials are used properly and kept safe by verifying the presence of equipment, keeping an inventory record of equipment and supplies, and monitoring consumption of supplies by students.
  • Ability to effectively manage time.
  • Ability to network with other faculty and departments on mutual projects.
  • Ability to monitor student progress as requested by proctoring and scoring tests and observing students’ work.
