POSITION: Medical Laboratory Technician Program Director / Instructor

STARTING DATE: Approximately March 19, 2025                                                  

APPOINTMENT: Full-Time Unlimited position (PCN 01019054)

RESPONSIBILITIES:           This on-campus position will oversee all methods of instruction delivery within the phlebotomy and medical laboratory technician programs. Manage risks associated with clinical and practical education of students. Manage student transition into program and retention. Keep program in compliance with stated goals and objectives. Assist in marketing/recruitment of students. Participate in ongoing professional development. Network on a professional level with local, state and national leaders in medical laboratory sciences.

Instructor Minimum Qualifications

Education Requirement :

  • Bachelor’s Degree

Occupational Experience Requirement

  • Two full-time years (or equivalent) of verified related paid work experience as a medical laboratory technologist/scientist.

Recency Requirement

  • One year of this work experience shall be within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for the credential field. The recency requirement shall be waived if the individual has two years of successful full-time (or equivalent) postsecondary teaching experience in the credential field within the last five years.

Professional Requirement

  • Medical Laboratory Technologist/Scientist certification by one of the following: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Program Director Minimum Qualifications:        

1. The program director must have:

  1. An earned master’s or doctoral degree.
  2. An ASCP BOC or ASCPi generalist certification as a medical laboratory scientist.
  3. Three years of teaching experience.
  4. Knowledge of education methods and administration as well as current NAACLS accreditation procedures and certification procedures.
  5. (for international programs only) If the program director does not hold ASCP BOC or ASCPi BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist, a qualified professional who does hold ASCP-BOC or ASCPi BOC certification as a medical laboratory scientist must hold appointment as an accreditation liaison.

2. Responsibilities

The program director must:

  1. Be responsible for the organization, administration, instruction, evaluation, continuous quality improvement, curriculum planning and development, directing other program faculty/staff, and general effectiveness of the program.
  2. Provide evidence of participation in the budget preparation process.
  3. Engage in a minimum of 36 hours of documented continuing professional development every three years.
  4. Be responsible for maintaining NAACLS accreditation of the program.
  5. Have regular and consistent contact with students, faculty, and program personnel.
