Alexandria Public Schools is seeking Paraprofessionals to join our team at both the Middle School and High School. These positions provide valuable support to students and staff in a variety of classroom and school settings.
Essential Functions
Assist classroom teachers by guiding and reinforcing lessons; explain instructions and assignments to students individually or in small groups; administer make-up tests and quizzes; collect and maintain data as directed by the teacher; and assist with preparatory materials.
Support classroom discipline, help implement behavior management programs, and assist with crisis intervention, which may include physical restraints.
Assist with student IEPs (Individual Education Plans), which may involve swimming and adaptive physical education; provide support with hygiene, toileting, occupational therapy, feeding, clothing, diapering, and transfers.
Supervise and monitor students on buses and playgrounds, in study halls, locker rooms, lunchrooms, and hallways; report discipline concerns to teachers and/or principals; handle minor discipline issues according to district guidelines; and assist with student needs and behaviors during bus transportation.
Maintain daily communication with teachers regarding schedules, student progress, and problem solving.
Attend meetings and in-service training as requested.
Participate in paid training.
Qualifications
This position does not require a license. However, some paraprofessional roles require candidates to be considered “highly qualified” under the Code of Federal Regulations. This status may be met through one of the following:
Completion of at least two years of college credits from an accredited institution of higher education;
An associate’s or higher degree; or
A passing score on a valid, reliable assessment demonstrating the ability to assist with instruction in reading/language arts, writing, mathematics, or readiness in these subjects.
Compensation
$21.70 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
