A Seasonal Highway Engineering Technician assists the Public Works Director/Engineer and performs additional tasks as assigned by the Assistant Public Works Director and staff to assist in the development and completion of complex Public Works Projects. Provides field and office civil engineering work. Performs duties that include, but are not limited to assisting with such tasks as materials testing, surveying, and inspection.

.REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT HIRE:
Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
 
Licenses and Other Requirements: 
Valid Minnesota Class D Driver's License required.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualities at Hire:

• Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; basic arithmetic; determine percentages; determine time and weight, perform calculations involving variables, formulas square roots, and polynomials; perform statistical calculations; and interpret same as appropriate.        

 
PREFERRED / DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education
Currently enrolled in a program to acquire a Technical College diploma or Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field.

Experience
Surveying, material testing, computer-aided drafting in the civil engineering field.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Public Building/Outdoors.  
 
HOURS
This position generally works Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. however, extended shifts, and weekend work will be required due to special needs or reassignment of workloads.
