General Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic American Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. You will play a vital role in ensuring clear communication for deaf and hard-of-hearing students within our school district. You will work under the limited supervision of the Director of Student Support Services and collaborate with other staff to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Bridge the Gap: Accurately translate spoken language into clear and expressive American Sign Language.
  • Empowering Students: Provide guidance and support to students regarding daily routines, schedules, and effective management of learning materials.
  • Collaboration is Key: Consult with licensed staff and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive approach to student success.

Your Qualifications:

  • Knowledge is Power: Possess a thorough understanding of district policies and procedures, school safety protocols, and emergency preparedness plans.
  • The Language of ASL: Demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of American Sign Language and strong communication skills.
  • Technological Savvy: Be proficient in basic arithmetic calculations and have a working knowledge of standard office software applications.
  • Leading by Example: Embrace and adhere to the district's "Code of Conduct" while fostering positive and productive relationships with students, staff, faculty, and parents.
  • Prepared for Anything: Have a general understanding of first aid practices and be prepared to respond to various situations.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals (experience details can be specified based on your needs).
  • Completion of an American Sign Language Interpreter program.
  • Must obtain both American Sign Language Interpreter and Interpreter/Transliterator Certification upon hire.
